Our Lord Jesus Christ in His prayer talked about the unity of the Church. If the Lord Himself prayed about it, then it is really something important. Without unity nothing is possible. You cannot win any victory in any sphere of human life, be it your family, or a church or business.

For the last 10 year two Reformed churches ministered in different parts of St. Petersburg. The Reformed Presbyterian Church ministered in megalopolis itself and the Presbyterian Church “Annunciation” worshiped in Pushkin, which is the outskirt of St. Petersburg. All this time two communities were friends, prayed for each other, had common services at Christmas and Easter.

In fall of 2010 an idea to merge these churches occurred. The point was to merge all gifts, talents and resources to fulfill with joint efforts the ministry that our Lord Jesus Christ has commissioned to His Church in St. Petersburg. The elders of two churches decided to discuss this idea with all members. All brothers and sisters expressed their full agreement to merge two churches. After that two communities began to pray about it. In the long run it was decided that two churches become a single whole, i.e. the one Body of Christ.

On December 25, 2010 there was a Christmas worship service of the new church. This day is considered to be the birthday of the new community – the Reformed Presbyterian Church of St. Petersburg. Rev. Oleg Volkov was called to be a pastor of this church. Right now we have 10 families, and all together there are 48 members, including children.

We thank all our brothers and sisters who prayed for us, supported our ministry and continue to support us here in St. Petersburg.

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ will help the united church to fulfill its ministry in this city for His Glory. We are convinced that the church should develop in three directions: 1) to teach the truth and to keep the truth; 2) to preach the Gospel of the kingdom; and 3) to do works of mercy. This is the example our Lord Jesus Christ modeled for us (Mt. 4:23 – 25). He is the Head of the Church, and to Him is all glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The Keys of the Kingdom

Jesus gave the keys of the Kingdom to leaders of the church, promising universal victory to His Church (Matt. 16:18).

Keys of the KingdomIn Acts the pattern of church planting indicates that the churches sent men across cultural and national borders to nourish weaker churches and establish new ones (Acts 11-15).

Therefore, it is local churches which are to take the initiative and responsibility in preaching the Gospel to all creation and sending missionaries to plant churches to the ends of the earth.
